Vino Dessera Vineyards

An excellent choice, with a wide array of very nice wines

Within an easy hour or so's drive of Istanbul are a number of excellent wineries. Vino Dessera is an excellent choice, as it has vineyards, a winery, a restaurant, wine tastings, and a small boutique, cozy hotel.

These are all located together on the north side of Kirklareli - and if I'm right this is the northern most winery in Turkey. It sits at the southern end of the Strandj Massif - the high plain running through the Balkans into the Thrace region of Turkey. In the foothills of the Istranca mountains. This area is known for milder climates moderated by the Black sea just north of here and the Aegean and Sea of Marmara to the south.

Vino Dessera vineyards was started around 2004 growing grapes on 30 hectares of land. Their 100,000 bottles capacity factory in 400m2 is where they focus on tight fermentation controls to arrive at very full bodied yet balanced wine. This is something I can confirm they have achieved. They have some excellent darker reds and probably my favorite red blend and Cabernet Franc in Turkey. They do a full range of wines include whites, reds and rose' from these varieties: Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Barbare D’Asti, Cabernet Franc , Alexandria Muscat, Sangiovese, Shiraz, Kalecik Karası, Öküzgözü ve Petit Verdot.

Their hotel has 33 rooms. They are comfortable and the envirions are nice for a short stay. They have a full menu and their wine tasting is well structured.

The vineyard owner and family live on site, so you 'll get very good hands on involvement from knowledge people.

There are a few interesting items in the nearby area as well.
